KUALA LUMPUR: The UMW Group’s automotive sales surged by 47 per cent year-on-year to 36,780 units in July 2023 from 24,983 units recorded in the same month last year.

In a statement, the group attributed the sales performance to continuous deliveries by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and UMW’s associate company, Perodua, amidst encouraging outstanding bookings.

“We are pleased with the strong sales registered by both UMWT and Perodua in July 2023, as demand remains healthy.

“Year-to-date (YTD), both companies have continued to register higher year-on-year (y-o-y) sales,” said UMW Holdings Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali.

In July 2023, UMWT’s sales grew by 26 per cent y-o-y to 8,349 units, with Toyota Vios, Hilux and Corolla Cross being the top-selling models.

This brought its YTD sales to 57,008 units, an 8.0 per cent y-o-y growth compared with 52,548 units delivered in the corresponding period in 2022.

Meanwhile, Perodua’s sales surged 55 per cent y-o-y to 28,431 units, bringing its YTD sales to 173,121 units –  19 per cent higher than the 145,689 units delivered in the same period in 2022.

Its sales performance was mainly attributed to the increase in production, supported by the improving supply chain.

Moving forward, Ahmad Fuaad said the group will continue to introduce competitive and exciting new models to meet its customers’ requirements.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to our customers for their continuous support of our products and services,” he said. –  BERNAMA
