KUCHING: A Gawai Bazaar Festival will be held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) from June 17-26.

The event coincides with the State-level Gawai Dinner at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 25.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Gerawat Gala said the festival will commence at 4pm on weekdays, at 10am on weekends and end at 11pm.

“The events lined up include Dayak cultural art performances, live band performances, Kumang and Keling contests for those aged 9 to 15 years old, Gawai Idol talent shows and performances by local artistes, among others,” he said in a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex on Monday (June 13).

He added that the organising committee is targeting about 200 stalls (100 non-halal stalls, 50 halal stalls, and 50 handicraft and art stalls) to be put up at the bazaar.

“We are inviting the public, to come to the bazaar to support the local economy while enjoying the Gawai festive mood,” he added.
