SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) took a significant step in supporting rural development as Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong and Sibu Jaya chairman Kong Sing Ping visited the Udan longhouse on Sunday.
The visit was aimed at informing resident Salina about the upcoming renovation of her home, which has secured a RM20,000 grant from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
The grant is specifically allocated for repairing and upgrading the house’s infrastructure, ensuring better living conditions for its occupants.
However, the project remains in its planning phase and has yet to commence officially.
As the Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman, Wong reaffirmed SUPP’s dedication to utilising the funds effectively.
“This is not just support for an individual family but an enhancement of the overall wellbeing of the longhouse community. Through this project, we aim to create a safer and more comfortable living environment for the residents,” he said.
During a discussion with the Udan longhouse chief and other local leaders, Wong and Kong stressed the importance of community cooperation to ensure the project’s smooth execution.
Kong noted that the initiative could serve as a model for future community-driven projects.
“We hope this project will bring long-term positive impacts and set an example for similar community development initiatives in the future,” he added.
“This visit marks a crucial milestone in the renovation effort and underscores SUPP’s ongoing commitment to grassroots development,” he said.
