KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar handed over RM800,000 in aid to four houses of worship in Lundu during a cheque presentation ceremony at his official residence, Kasuma Resort here today (Dec 20).

The ceremony marked the fourth phase of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) cheque presentation for 2024.

The Governor, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, presented the cheques to representatives of the respective religious institutions.

The recipients included St. Thomas Church Kampung Seraing, St. Francis Church Lundu, Chapel St. Matthew Kampung Titiakar Lundu, and Chapel St. Michael Kampung Paon Lundu.

Each institution received RM200,000 to enhance their infrastructure and support their activities.

Wan Junaidi and his wife expressed their hope that the funds would be utilised effectively to enhance the infrastructure of the recipient houses of worship and to foster unity among Sarawak’s multi religious communities.

The funds were initially announced by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister responsible for UNIFOR, on December 11.

Present to receive the cheques were chairman of St. Thomas Church Kampung Seraing Joseph Sinkin, chairman of St. Francis Church Lundu SD Benjamin Gersit Jais, chairman of Chapel St. Matthew Kampung Titiakar Lundu Freda Kahang, and chairman of Chapel St. Michael Kampung Paon Lundu Rabin Taram.

The ceremony was also attended by Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang and Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, alongside officials from UNIFOR.
