SIBU: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Datuk Patinggi Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the Sibu Division Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering here, last night (Apr 4).
The celebration, held at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), drew over 1,700 attendees from all walks of life.
In his welcoming speech, Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee expressed his appreciation for Wan Junaidi and his wife’s presence at the event for the second consecutive year.
“The presence of Tun (Wan Junaidi) each year together with the Muslim community in Sibu truly reflects his commitment to the welfare and future of our society here.
“On behalf of the entire community, I would like to express our deepest gratitude. The people acknowledge and recognise that Tun’s leadership in Sarawak is of great significance and impact,” he said.
He added that Wan Junaidi’s vast experience and knowledge are invaluable, particularly for the people of Sarawak, especially as efforts are being made to reclaim the state’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“I believe that Tun, as a guiding figure for the multiracial and multi-religious society of Sarawak, will be able to provide leadership and advice to the government to ensure that all these efforts can be successfully realised,” he said.
Also in attendance were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, and his wife, Datin Amar Fatimah Mohamad Iskandar.
They were joined by Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Abdul Karim’s wife, Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabbar.
