TANJUNG MANIS: An abandoned tugboat suffered extensive damage, while another tugboat was damaged slightly in a fire that occurred in the wee hours at the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (LKIM) port here.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), it received a distress call about the incident at around 12.02 am and deployed seven firefighters to the scene located 6km from the station.
“Upon arrival, low water levels, lack of access, along with muddy ground, made it difficult for firefighters to reach the scene.
“The firefighters needed to cut the wire fence to gain access to the site, and firefighting operations were conducted from the outside of the vessels,” Bomba said in a statement today.
The fire was brought under control at 1.03 am.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire and the loss incurred are still under investigation.
