MIRI: Police here have detained two suspects to assist them in the investigation of a robbery case involving a Bulgarian woman six days ago.
The first suspect, a 27-year-old male was picked up on Tuesday afternoon from an unnumbered house at Jalan Pujut Tanjung, Batu 6 here.
According to the Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the suspect was detained at 3.30pm.
“During the arrest, police discovered and seized a handphone believed belonging to the 25 year-old victim (Bulgarian woman),” Lim said.
Lim added the victim is a performer with a circus company at Coco Cabana in Marina Bay here.
Meanwhile, the second suspect, 23, of the case was picked up by the roadside of Jalan Pujut here by Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team around 3pm yesterday. He was brought to Central Police Station (CPS) Miri for questioning.
On March 20 a Bulgarian woman was robbed by the two suspects.
The incident occurred at Jalan Brighton here around 4.40am.
The incident occurred when the victim was on her way heading towards a 24-hour convenience store when she was approached by the two suspects.
“The suspects pointed a knife towards the victim and fled off the scene after she handed over her handphone,” Lim added.
Both suspects were armed with machetes during the robbery.
“The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery,” said Lim.
In an unrelated case, Lim said, police had confirmed a recent report on a robbery case that occurred in Tudan as a false report.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had lodged a false report on the incident,” said Lim when contacted by the New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Lim later reminded members of the public not to lodge false police report as the offence, framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment up to six months or a fine of RM2,000 or both.
