MIRI: Two soldiers have been arrested in connection with the death of Private Muhammad Muqriz Aseri, 21, at Camp Sri Miri on March 24.

Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that both suspects, aged 22 and 24, were arrested at the camp at approximately 4.30 pm on March 25.

Both suspects hold the rank of private, and are currently under police remand for seven days until April 2.

“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” said Alexson, urging the public to refrain from speculation.

A post-mortem conducted at Miri Hospital on March 25 determined the cause of death as blunt trauma to the chest (contusio cordis), indicating severe impact resulting in heart damage.

The remains of the deceased were flown to Kuala Lumpur and laid to rest at the Al-Islamiah Mosque Cemetery, Kampung Lindungan, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, at 11.55 pm last night.
