MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri Maritime Zone detained two passenger vessels for failing to report a change of captain to the port authority during an inspection.

The vessels were intercepted approximately 0.7 nautical miles west of the Miri River estuary.

Miri Maritime Zone director Maritime Captain Mohd Khairol Anuar Saad said that the vessels were detained by an MMEA patrol boat during Operation Permai 01/2019, Operation Naga Timur, Operation Tiris 3.0, and Operation Khas Pagar Laut 1/2025 at around 1.35 pm yesterday.

Both passenger vessels were carrying a total of two passengers and four crew members, including the captain, aged between 21 and 59.

They were taken into custody and escorted to the Miri Vessel Detention Centre (PVT Miri) before being handed over to MMEA investigating officers for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for failing to report the captain’s change to the port officer during an inspection.
