KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 fatalities on Monday (Jan 25), both in Sibu, bringing the number of deaths to 30.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the first victim was Case No 2,855, a local aged 72 years old, who was referred to Sibu Hospital on Jan 24.

“She experienced difficulty in breathing and a tube was inserted for respiratory assistance.

“She was pronounced dead at 1.51am on Jan 25. In addition, this case too had comorbid high blood pressure, obesity and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),” SDMC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the second fatality was Case No 2,672, a 52-year-old local, who was admitted to Sibu Hospital on Jan 19.

“He had difficulty in breathing due to excess water in his body caused by comorbid chronic kidney disease.

“The rT-PCR test conducted on him came back positive. The deceased was pronounced dead at 8.14am on Jan 25,” SDMC stated.

The case had comorbidities such as high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and diabetes.
