BETONG: Seven individuals, including a two-month-old baby, sustained minor injuries in a single-vehicle accident near Kampung Pentik Betong, Pan Borneo Highway yesterday evening (Dec 26).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the incident, involved a Toyota Vellfire and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

He said the car had skidded and collided with the road divider.

A distress call was received around 4.19 pm, and a team from Betong Bomba, one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and a Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit were dispatched to the scene. They arrived at the scene at 4.43 pm.

“Upon arrival, rescuers found one victim trapped inside the vehicle while six others had been assisted out by bystanders.

“The trapped victim, Alice Lee Swee Yun, 64, sustained minor injuries and was extricated by the fire department using specialised equipment,” Bomba said.

Firefighters provided first aid on-site, including stabilising the trapped victim with a cervical collar before extrication.

The other victims were Jeremy 38-year-old Ling Teck Fu, Ling Siong Soon (67), Erma Shamiza Abdullah (36), Cyrus Ayd Ling Jia Yu (seven), Ed Zayd Ling Jia Yi (four), and Ashamiza Ling Jia Jia (2 months old).

All the victims were later transported to the hospital for further treatment.

The operation ended with the operation team clearing the debris to ensure road safety.
