KUCHING: Two local men died on the spot following a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Pelabuhan last night (Jan 8).

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the fatal accident, which happened at around 11.10 pm, involved a motorcycle and a lorry parked on the roadside.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcycle, ridden by the victims, was traveling from Jalan Pending towards Jalan Bako when it collided with the rear of the stationary lorry.

“As a result, the rider and his pillion rider, aged 18 and 25, were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Their bodies have been taken to the hospital for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Farhan added that the lorry driver has been detained to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are appealing to those with information on the accident, to contact traffic investigating officer Insp Muhammad Amirul Azami Ahmad Rasol at 016-8593994 or 082-259900, or visit the nearest police station.

He also advised road users to refrain from parking on roadsides as it can pose danger to other motorists.
