LUNDU: Two Indonesians sustained first-degree burns after an evening fire engulfed their workers’ quarters at PJP Pelita, Rimbunan Hijau here, yesterday (Dec 11).
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a 20-year-old man experienced breathing difficulties and sustained burns to both legs, while a 22-year-old man sustained burns to his right leg and back.
Both men received initial treatment at the scene before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, firefighters from Lundu station were dispatched to the scene, about 37km away, after receiving a distress call at 6.45 pm.
Upon arrival, they found the six-door quarters beyond saving and extinguishing works were carried out.
The blaze, which left 14 workers homeless, was brought under control at 9 pm and overhaul works followed suit to ensure that there is no risk of reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 10.20 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
