KOTA SAMARAHAN: A love for healthy competition from a young age has paid off for twin sisters, who graduated together and received their degrees at the 28th Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Convocation on Wednesday (Nov 6).

Twenty-three-year-old twins Nur-Eryshazana Amirulzaki Hassan and Nur-Eryshazani Amirulzaki Hassan from Miri, both received their Bachelor’s Degrees in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

According to Nur-Eryshazana, they have always engaged in friendly competition and motivated each other, especially in their studies.

“Just like our friends, we studied as usual and have no special secret to our success. We always supported one another.

“If my sister scored higher, I would work harder to achieve the same result, and vice versa,” she told reporters.

Nur-Eryshazani shared that she was born three minutes after her elder sister, and the two have never been apart since birth.

She added that if one of them falls ill, the other often does too.

“We are grateful, thank God, that we were able to work hard and achieve our goal of graduating together.

“Thanks to our parents’ prayers, the guidance from our lecturers, and the support of friends, our journey was made easier,” she said.

Their father, Amirulzaki Hassan Kassim, 53, said it was never difficult for him to tell the twins apart.

“When they were in primary school, the elder sister was closer to me, and the younger was closer to her mother. But when they reached high school, their personalities changed.

“The elder sister became closer to her mother, while the younger one grew closer to me,” he explained, adding that their family has many sets of twins in their ancestry.

He also expressed his pride in his daughters’ achievements and hoped they would continue to succeed in their careers and future endeavours.
