KUCHING: The sewerage project in the Tupong constituency will be 90 per cent completed by the end of the month, said  its assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

He said the deadline was set during a meeting followed by a site visit for the project today (Nov 7) which was attended by the relevant agencies, project contractor and the residents.

“We were briefed by the Sewerage Department and the consultant on the status of the project, its challenges and the way forward.

“From the project map, we have identified close to 90 per cent of the roads (affected by the sewerage project) will be completed by the end of November and will be resurfaced,” he said when met by reporters.

The sewerage project affects the roads throughout Kampung Pinang Jawa and Kampung Laruk Skim.

Fazzrudin said the meeting also urged the contractor to finalise the works on the stretches of road where  the sewerage project had been completed  or was almost ready.

At the same time, he said there were several stretches of road where the project was still under construction due to technical challenges faced by the contractor.

“There are only two or three stretches that are still in the works,” he said, adding that the contractors were doing their best to resolve the issues.

Fazzrudin, who is also chief political secretary to the Premier, said resurfacing works would commence following the completion of the sewerage projects to provide comfort and safety to the road users as well as the public.

Present during the meeting and site visit were representatives of the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), the Sewerage Service Department (SSD), project contractor, consultants and Tupong grassroot leaders.
