ATLANTA: Former President Donald Trump after being arrested and released on election interference charges said he did nothing wrong and has the right to challenge a “dishonest” election, reported Sputnik.
“What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. We did nothing wrong, I did nothing wrong. And everybody knows that I’ve never had such support,” he said before boarding a plane in Atlanta on Thursday. “We have every right, every single right, to challenge an election that we think is dishonest.”
Trump also said this is the way his political rivals campaign, just like the other three instances, before accusing them of election interference.
“It’s a very sad day for America, this should never happen,” Trump said. “I thought the election was a rigged election. A stolen election.”
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office released a mugshot of Trump that was widely circulated on social media.
After being released on bail, Trump is expected to leave Atlanta until at least the first court hearing in September. In total, as part of the case, he was charged with 13 counts related to pressure on local officials in an attempt to change in his favour the lost 2020 presidential election in the state.
This marks the fourth arrest for the ex-president after Washington, New York and Miami, where Trump appeared in court on charges related to the January 6 riots, falsifying business documents, and illegal possession of classified materials, among others.– BERNAMA-SPUTNIK
