KUCHING: Transfer chatter is reaching fever pitch around Kuching City FC as the club closes in on three potential signings – including one home-grown talent whose return has fans abuzz.
Club chairman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, recently hinted at the comeback of a Sarawakian player, sparking lively speculation across social media.
While names remain unconfirmed, he revealed that talks are in advanced stages to secure three new players, one of whom hails from Sarawak and currently plays outside the state.
Among the names circulating is Gabriel Nistelrooy, the 24-year-old Miri-born forward making waves at Johor Darul Ta’zim.
A standout performer in the MFL Cup, Gabriel is also in contention for Best Player – fuelling hopes he might return to represent his home state.
Also linked is Tommy Mawat, the dynamic midfielder now with Perak FC, who previously featured for Sarawak United, Sabah FC and Negeri Sembilan.
His versatility and experience make him a compelling prospect.
Perhaps the most ambitious rumour involves Dion Cools, currently with Thai Premier League leaders, Buriram United.
Eligible to represent Sarawak through his mother, the Malaysian international adds a wildcard element to fan speculation – though a move remains unlikely.
Cools is set to feature in Buriram’s upcoming AFC Champions League quarter-final against Al-Ahli Saudi.
Head coach, Aidil Sharin Sahak, praised the club’s recruitment efforts but remained tight-lipped on specifics.
“I’m grateful to the management for their trust.
“The incoming players have strong discipline, character and real potential to boost the squad.
“We’re waiting for the club to make it official,” he said.
With the new season approaching, supporters are watching closely, hoping the mystery name might soon be revealed, and perhaps, that a Sarawakian star is indeed coming home.
