BINTULU: A motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a trailer which was making a U-turn at Mile 8 at Jalan Bintulu-Miri on Friday.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu disclosed that the rider, aged 52, died while receiving medical treatment at Bintulu Hospital due to his injuries.

The deceased was travelling alone when the accident happened at 5.30pm.

Meanwhile, the trailer’s driver was unharmed.

Both vehicles were heading towards Miri from Bintulu when the fatal crash occurred.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, in Kuching a couple was lucky to come out from an accident alive.

In the 7.43pm accident, the man, 54, and his 56-year-old wife were headed for Sadong Jaya from Kota Samarahan when their car collided head-on with a truck.

The man was pinned to his seat while his wife suffered only minor injuries.

A state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said a team of firefighters from the Asajaya fire station were deployed to the scene at 8pm.

Upon arrival they found the driver pinned to his seat and suffered injuries to his leg and head.

The victim was immediately extricated from the wreckage using special tools.

He was later given early medical treatment before being taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Heart Centre for further treatment.

His wife was taken to the Asajaya health clinic.

The lorry driver was unharmed.
