SARIKEI: A single-lane bottleneck on the Pan Borneo Highway near Jakar caused long delays for motorists on Monday as traffic volume surged.
Sarikei police chief Superintendent Aswandy Anis said the situation was exacerbated by construction zones where both lanes of the highway had been narrowed to one.
“Police were deployed to the scene to manage traffic flow and ease the backlog,” he said.
The bottleneck caused a tailback stretching over 10km, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded for extended periods. The incident sparked discussion on social media, with many road users expressing their frustration.
“Police presence remained on-site throughout the day to alleviate the situation.
“Fortunately, the previously closed lane has now been reopened, which should improve traffic flow,” he added.
He urged the public to be patient and considerate of other drivers as construction on the highway continues.
