KUCHING: As the Christmas festivity draws near, traffic congestion is increasing as people either go for last-minute shopping or return to their hometowns.
Sarawak Tribune observed that the usually smooth main roads and highways are now filled with slow-moving vehicles, especially during peak hours, when many residents return to celebrate Christmas with their families.
In addition, shopping malls are also crowded as people are seen shopping for Christmas goods.
Road congestion is becoming more noticeable ahead of the festival, especially around Jalan Urat Mata and Jalan Simpang Tiga here when traffic flow starts to be congested around 12 noon onwards.
Subsequently vehicles can be seen moving slowly towards shopping malls such as The Spring Shopping Mall and Vivacity Megamall which are the focus of people to buy festive goods.
Meanwhile, the authorities are also conducting a road safety campaign in conjunction with the festive season.
