SIBU: Traders here are being warned not to raise the price of controlled goods listed under the Chinese New Year 2025 Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP).
Ministry of Domestic Trade And Cost of Living (KPDN) Sibu branch head, Kelyn Bolhassan @ Haliward said, the SHMMP will last for nine days effective Jan 25.
“Traders who disobey the prescribed SHMMP will face legal action. Any trader found committing the offence will face the wrath of the law under the Price Control and Anti -Profiteering Act 2011,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
According to Kelyn, a total of 12 types of goods were listed under the Chinese New Year 2025 SHMMP consisting of white pomfret (ikan bawal putih) sold at a wholesale price of RM37/kilogramme and RM40/kilogramme (retail price); large white shrimp – RM31/RM34/kilogramme; Chinese garlic – RM8.50/RM10/kilogramme; imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China excluding Beijing) – RM3.50/RM4.50/kilogramme; radish – RM4.50/RM5.50/kilogramme and white carrot – RM4/RM5/kilogramme.
Other items listed are import potatoes (China) which are sold at a wholesale price of RM3 and a retail price of RM4/kilogramme; imported old ginger – RM9/RM10.50/kilogramme; chicken wings – RM13.50/RM14.50/kilogramme; live farm pig – RM15/kilogramme; pork (belly) – RM26/RM28/kilogramme and pork (meat and fat) -RM25/RM27/kilogramme.
He reminded traders who are selling controlled prices to put pink price tags on the goods to distinguish them from other items.
“Failure to do so could cause them to be fined up to RM10,000 for individual offence and RM20,000 for the corporation or company,” he said.
“Traders must comply with the instructions imposed and practice an ethical attitude in managing business while consumers must know their responsibility and exercise their rights.
