KUCHING: Touch Rugby, a captivating new sports competition, is poised to be included in the prestigious Malaysian Sports Selection (SUKMA).
Dewan Negara Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim expressed the need to acknowledge the sport’s potential in fostering unity among athletes, regardless of gender or age.
“I wholeheartedly encourage individuals of all ages, including those over 50, to participate in this sport and embrace the competition,” stated Ahmad.
Highlighting the sport’s inclusive nature, he emphasized that Touch Rugby is not only immensely popular among the youth but also offers an opportunity for men and women of varying ages to play together on the same team.
These remarks were made during the closing ceremony of the highly successful Kuching Touch Rugby Games held at the D Jalan Stadium field yesterday.
In light of the tournament’s success, Ahmad pledged to elevate the competition to new heights, surpassing its previous organization.
“Our aim is to elevate this sporting event to a national level competition. I will actively support the preparations and allocation of resources for the upcoming tournament,” added Ahmad.
In the open category final, the representatives of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) emerged victorious, claiming the top spot, while SSC Hornbill secured the second position.
As Touch Rugby garners attention for its inclusive and unifying nature, it holds immense promise to become a prominent addition to the Malaysian Sports Selection (SUKMA).
