KUCHING: The news of a political takeover by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim seems to be yet another disingenuous move by Pakatan Harapan (PH) to confuse matters in the public eyes, says Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok.
He pointed out that just days ago, Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) top leadership such as its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen had said that they wanted Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal as Prime Minister candidate.
“Now, DAP seems to have jumped to Anwar’s camp with Lim Guan Eng confirming DAP’s support should Anwar possess the required numbers,” he said in a statement today.
He said that SUPP Stakan branch viewed this as “totally shameless politics”, noting that PH was now saying that they would work with United Malays National Organisation (Umno) to form a government devoid of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, current Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and apparently Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as well.
“Where are DAP’s so-called principles? SUPP Stakan challenges DAP to explain why it is beneficial for Sarawak that Malaysia sees a change of government within months.
“Even if it might somehow be beneficial, please explain how DAP will form the government with Barisan Nasional (BN), whom they accused of promoting their negative race and religion to divide and rule us?
“Are Umno and BN no longer corrupted as accused by them? Does this mean DAP has been lying to the people for the past 56 years?”
He requested for DAP to address these questions so that the public may understand the turmoil the party had started and the mistruths they had been peddling to the voting public.
For the sake of a stable government at the federal level, he called on all MPs in Parliament to practise integrity and stop all party – and Prime Minister – hopping.
“Continuous jostling for the post of Prime Minister can only result in a stunted federal government which is unable to govern and unable to competently protect our country and our citizens.”
In this matter, SUPP Stakan branch thanked the GPS leadership for their clear stance in strengthening its promise to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to give unwavering support to Muhyiddin as Prime Minister.
Sim also reminded the people that there was a possibility of simultaneous State and General Elections or even an earlier-than-expected General Election (GE), as the only way to resolve the latest political impasse and end the politicking could be for Muhyiddin to dissolve Parliament and let the country decide once and for all who shall lead Malaysia.
“With this in mind, we wish to urge the people in Kuching to vote GPS overwhelmingly so that we may have more Chinese representatives in the federal government.
“GPS with 18 seats stabilised Malaysia and helped Sarawak’s economy get going again, so that means come GE-15 we must provide GPS with more elected representatives that have strength of character not to jump, but give the necessary en bloc strength to rule the country and deliver to Sarawak our dues.”
He stressed that a stronger GPS meant a stronger Sarawak, and faster returns of the state’s eroded rights as per the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“For that, we ask that the people in Kuching to abandon DAP en masse and shift our support to GPS to see brighter days of political stability and prosperity for all.”
