Many schools with 60-70% student attendance, says Wee
KUCHING: “A lot of schools only record about 60 to 70 percent student attendance as some of the students are scared to go back to school in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“However, I don’t blame them as we are facing an invisible enemy. I think it will take some time for the public to recover their confidence,” said Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) president Datuk Richard Wee.
He was speaking to the press after attending the ‘Assist in Distribution of Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC)’ programme held at Gala City on Sunday (Aug 9).
“Although businesses and schools have the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place, the public still have low level of comfort,” said Wee.
He pointed out that the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee had been very active and was quick to react to all non-constant circumstances.
Asked whether the business operations hours from 10am to 10pm should be continued or shortened, Wee said he would leave it to the government to decide.
“Personally, I hope that it can be extended soon for the benefit of all the operating businesses but we have to be more careful than sorry,” he added.
