TEBEDU: The Togap Club of SMK Tebakang remains committed to its founding goal of nurturing professional golfers from the Bidayuh community.
Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the main objective of the club’s establishment is to introduce the sport of golf to the Bidayuh community and eventually produce professional golfers, at least to represent Sarawak in the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
“Since its establishment in 2021, the club has actively participated in various golf tournaments, including the Saixon Malaysia Junior 2022 Development Tour, the 2nd KGS Junior Open Championship 2023, and a competition at Miri Golf Club in 2024.
“I encourage all club members to continue training diligently so they can compete with other golf clubs across Sarawak.”
Dr Sinang said this during a gathering with members of the club on Monday (April 7).
As a sign of continued support, he also approved a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM10,000 to help the club manage its activities and finance training sessions to be held at the Samarahan Golf Club.
“With this assistance, the club is expected to continue growing and produce talented golfers from SMK Tebakang,” he added.
The club currently has 33 registered student members and is recognised as the first golf club among secondary schools in the Serian and Tebedu districts.
