KUCHING: The Sarawak Esports Expo 2024 (SAREX24) is a crucial platform for the state to assess its esports capabilities and compete internationally.

“We have a strong player base and an emerging esports ecosystem,” Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said during the closing ceremony of the three-day event yesterday (Dec 15).

“However, to truly gauge our talent, we must compete with teams from around the world.”

SAREX24, held at the MBKS Event Ground, saw teams from Malaysia, Sabah, Labuan, and Sarawak compete, showcasing the state’s growing presence on the global esports stage.

“We have seen excellent participation, demonstrating that Sarawak is ready to step onto the global esports stage,” he said.

“Competing locally is important, but you’ll never know how good you are until you face international teams.”

He stressed that esports is not just about gaming but a thriving ecosystem encompassing competition, innovation, education, and opportunities.

He urged those who did not win to view every match as a valuable learning experience.
