KUCHING: The Regent of Johor, His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, advised Johor to emulate the unity seen in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

He said that the unity within Sarawak’s political party has ensured that their voice is heard, as the federal government can no longer turn a deaf ear to their demands because they are the kingmakers.

“Look at Sarawak today; they can bargain for many things from the federal government. Why? (Not due to MA63). Before I say this, I would like to apologise first to all the ministers and political parties, but this happens because Sarawak has its own political alliance (which is GPS).

“In Johor, we have PKR, DAP, UMNO, PAS, and more, but why don’t we establish our own ‘Gabungan Bangsa Johor’? That’s the best way,” he said during a special podcast aired live on the Media Digital Johor Facebook page on Sunday (June 9).

Tunku Ismail said that all the taxes are managed by the federal government, and “if we want to do something for the state, we need to apply for allocations from the federal government, which can take years before being approved.”

“If Johor has a political alliance that takes care of Johor’s interests like how Sarawak did, I assure you, Johor in terms of development will be more advanced, I guarantee it.

“However, that mindset and those sacrifices need to start today so that our children and grandchildren can reap the benefits. We want to manage our own fate, not have others who are not from Johor manage it,” he added.
