KUALA LUMPUR: Taekwondo Malaysia (TM) has announced that it has successfully secured bids to host five major Asian Taekwondo championships in Kuching, Sarawak in 2025 with strong support from the Sarawak government.
The five championships are the Asian Junior Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship, Asian Junior Poomsae Taekwondo Championship, Asian Cadet Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship, Asian Cadet Poomsae Taekwondo Championship and the Para Taekwondo Championship.
“These championships will serve as key platforms for Malaysia to establish itself as a leader in hosting world-class Taekwondo events, while simultaneously advancing the skills of our athletes and preparing them for future international competitions,” TM said in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, TM also extended a warm invitation to all Taekwondo organisations not yet affiliated with TM to join their mission as this is an opportunity for organisations and practitioners to align with the legitimate governing body, ensuring official recognition and avoiding any potential legal challenges.
TM yesterday proudly reaffirmed its position as the sole governing body for the World Taekwondo (WT) system in Malaysia that is entrusted with representing Malaysia in WT competitions worldwide.
“In a significant development, TM conducted a comprehensive reassessment and introduction session for athletes and officials from the Malaysian Taekwondo Association (MTA) and Kukkiwon Malaysia.
“This process marks a key step in our dedication to inclusivity and collaboration, as we officially welcome them into the TM fold. We are inviting all Taekwondo organisations to join us in uniting under one shared vision, qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games and securing an Olympic medal by 2032,” the statement said. – BERNAMA
