BINTULU: MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has called on residents to cooperate and properly dispose waste at designated collection points or rubbish bins to prevent delays in post-flood clean-up efforts.
In a statement Tuesday (Feb 11) he acknowledged the challenges of clearing damaged furniture, rubbish, and debris from homes after the floods.
However, he stressed the importance of placing all waste at designated areas in one go to avoid repeated clean-ups.
“I urge everyone to cooperate by placing all waste at designated collection points or rubbish bins in one go.
“This will help prevent situations where volunteers clear an area, only for another mountain of rubbish to appear shortly after, which would stall the progress of waste management indefinitely,” he said.
Volunteer teams, organised by the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) of which he is president, Persatuan Persahabatan Zong Ho, and other community groups, have been actively involved in clearing debris and transporting waste to disposal sites.
Tiong who is Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister said that these volunteers are offering their time and effort without expecting anything in return.
“I hope everyone understands that the volunteer teams are contributing their time and effort on a voluntary basis. Even essential equipment such as lorries and excavators are either personally provided or coordinated by the volunteers themselves to enhance the efficiency of this clean-up operation,” he added.
With operations set to conclude at the end of this week, Tiong urged residents to dispose of their waste promptly to take advantage of the volunteer-led initiative.
