MIRI: Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism), Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew today visited a temporary relief centre here to ensure that food supplies for disaster victims were sufficient and to monitor their living conditions.
He visited the Miri Red Crescent Temporary Relief Centre, which housed landslide victims, to better understand their situation.
The centre is accommodating 105 landslide victims from 25 families.
Meanwhile, some flood-affected victims have started returning to their homes to carry out cleaning work.
“The government remains committed to addressing the needs of disaster victims and will work closely with relevant agencies to ensure they receive the necessary assistance to ease their burden,”said Ting in a press statement.
He also emphasised that this relief effort had received overwhelming support from various segments of society, including generous individuals, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community groups and the corporate sector.
“They have contributed food, essential good and daily necessities to the centre, bringing comfort to the affected victims,” he said.
“I sincerely thank all donors for their generosity and deeply appreciate the tireless efforts of the volunteers. The cooperation of all parties is what helps the victims get through this difficult time. This kind of spirit reflects the compassion and support of the community towards disaster victims,” Ting added.
