MIRI: Deputy Minister of Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew and Tong Seng Huat Rice Trading Sdn Bhd distributed duit raya, rice, and essential supplies to 100 recipients at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Luak.
The initiative aimed to spread festive cheer ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, ensuring that those in need could share in the celebrations.
The event, known as the Ramadan charity contribution, Bubur Lambuk distribution, and Iftar with local community leaders programme, was jointly organised by the Miri Caring Society Association (PPMM), Tong Seng Huat Rice Trading Sdn Bhd, and the Piasau Community Service Centre. It was sponsored by Ting.
Speaking at the event, the deputy minister highlighted Sarawak’s diverse cultural and religious landscape, emphasising that the state’s openness and harmony were its greatest strengths.
He noted that Sarawak’s unique multicultural identity serves as a model for unity in a multiracial society.
“Every year during Ramadan, various social organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), regardless of race or religion, actively organise bubur lambuk distribution and donation drives.
“These efforts transcend racial boundaries and showcase Sarawak’s distinctive cultural identity.
“This is the unique way of life in Sarawak. Through initiatives like these, people of all backgrounds can continue to nurture harmony, unity, and mutual respect, strengthening the foundation of a cohesive society,” he said.
Ting made these remarks during the Ramadan 2025 charity event and bubur lambuk distribution programme, held yesterday evening in Kampung Luak.
