KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must not be overly cautious in supporting reforms as this can hinder progress, said political analyst Datuk Dr Jeniri Amir.

Jeniri who is Senior Fellow of the National Council of Professors emphasised that Anwar’s reliance on the support of various parties should not deter him from making tough decisions, even if they are unpopular with his allies.

News portal FMT quoted Jeniri as questioning the progress of Anwar’s reform agenda, citing the absence of actions.

“Where is the repeal of draconian laws, the separation of the role of the attorney-general and public prosecutor, bold reforms like the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate or equal allocations for all MPs?”

He insisted that Anwar should not compromise on his core principles, even though political compromises are common.

“He needs to be a bit more ruthless and more decisive.

“Otherwise, it will affect his personal branding and support for Pakatan Harapan,” Jeniri told FMT.
