SIBU: Every member of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pelawan branch plays an important role in the development of the Pelawan constituency.
According to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, the concerted and united efforts of the members have borne wonderful fruits for SUPP Pelawan.
“As we know, many Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) in the Pelawan constituency have been completed. These community projects were not carried out by me (as the people’s representative) alone or by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting alone,” he stressed.
He said this to reporters after the installation of SUPP Pelawan’s office bearers and Christmas celebration at a renowned hotel here Friday night.
Tiang, who is also the Pelawan assemblyman, added that most of the projects were proposed and initiated by party members on the ground, who are able to see what needs to be done in every corner of Pelawan.
“With so much government funding going into building and upgrading Pelawan, and how we serve the people, the biggest winners are the people of Pelawan. I want to thank them for their unity and willingness to serve together with us.
“As a YB, my job is to secure the funding for these projects, but it is their efforts that make it happen,” he added.
Meanwhile, on SUPP Pelawan, Tiang said that it was established during the most difficult time for SUPP, dating back 10 years.
“One of the most challenging periods for SUPP was caused by party infighting. Because of this infighting, we lost our morale and spirit (semangat), you know. But I want to thank SUPP Pelawan branch chairman Clarence Ting.
“He was willing to step up and lead all of us to form a new branch called the SUPP Pelawan branch. From that point onwards, we haven’t looked back. From a very small team, we have developed to the scale we see tonight, with so many people with us,” he said.
He hoped that the members would continue to remain united and maintain the same spirit to serve Sibu, especially Pelawan, in the years to come.
“I believe that with this group of leaders in Sibu, with their heart and spirit, we can achieve great things in the years ahead,” he said.
