SIBU: Three Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) projects involving the construction of two wet markets and a food court could not be fully completed this year due to the Covid-19 movement control order (MCO).
The projects are the Pasar Sungai Merah, Pasar Jalan Tiong Hua and the Taman Muhibbah food court, all of which should be completed earlier this year.
Meanwhile, speaking on roads in SMC’s administrative area, chairman Clarence Ting said SMC had completed 60 per cent of the repairing and upgrading work excluding paving.
“We (SMC) only have four months to complete the tasks this year.
“Although it is a heavy responsibility for us to complete all the projects within the next four months, we are committed to completing all the delayed projects throughout this pandemic period,” he said after the virtual swearing-in ceremony of councillors at the SMC Public Library here, on Friday (July 23).
On mandatory vaccinations for hawkers, Ting said most of them had done so.
The swearing-in ceremony, which was witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg via Zoom, involved 758 councillors from 24 local authorities in the state.
A total of 32 councillors from SMC participated in the ceremony.
