KUCHING: Three Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members who are actively lobbying to be fielded in the Puncak Borneo constituency are confident of winning if nominated to contest the seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

They are 40-year-old PBB Supreme Council member Neuchlos Jub from Tarat constituency, retired Senior Administrative Officer (SAO) Rangen Jamang from Mambong constituency and lawyer Wejok Tomik from Serumbu constituency.

All three are now very active on the ground.

Neuchlos is is busy visiting families mourning the demise of family members as well as residents suffering from chronic illness.

Rangen and Wejok meanwhile are moving to meet the grassroots leaders – village chiefs and their development and security committee members.

Incumbent MP Datuk Willie Mongin in the meantime is also busy making his rounds in the constituency to monitor projects which are being implemented and attending events and meet-the-people sessions.

illie, a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MP also aspires to be a PBB and GPS candidate in the upcoming GE, and is hoping that PBB will open its doors to him and be nominated to defend the seat.

During the 2018 parliamentary election, Willie won the seat under a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket.

He garnered 18,865 votes for a majority of 4,005 votes to defeat Barisan Nasional candidate from PBB Jeannoth Sinel (14,860 votes) and the then State Reform Party’s (STAR) Buln Patrick Ribos (795 votes).

However, in 2020, Willie left PKR for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Wejok Tomik

Rangen when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune confirmed that he has been actively moving around to meet voters on the ground.

He claimed to have received very good ground support from community leaders and voters, but did not want to say if he has received any instruction from.party leaders to start moving.

“Not for me to disclose this at this moment,” he said.

Having served as a senior administrative officer in Padawan District he knows the difficulties and problems faced by the people, he said.

“I have done my very best to serve in my capacity as SAO. However there is much more to be done to upgrade the socio-economy of the people.

“The opportunities and resources are abundant in Puncak Borneo which will benefit the people,” he said.

Rangen said if he were to be picked by the party leaders as GPS candidate for Puncak Borneo and with a mandate given by the voters more development that benefits the people could be implemented in the constituency.

He said a representative of the people should work together with the government and the people in order to achieve greater development.
“We have to move forward together to achieve greater development for the people,” he added.

Neucholas also confirmed that he has already started moving actively on the ground and like Rangen he claimed that he has received very positive support and feedback from the voters.
