KUCHING: Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) is presently hosting annual festival ‘Sarawak Harvest and Folklore Festival (SHFF)’. It is co-organised with The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak (MTACYS) with the aim to position itself as an international community event on Sarawak tourism calendar.

Previously known as ‘World Harvest Festival (WHF)’, SCV has re-branded its annual festival to ‘Sarawak Harvest and Folklore Festival (SHFF)’ as a prelude to the statewide Gawai Dayak Festival celebrations and an opportunity for the non-Dayak communities to understand the culture, traditions and aspirations of the Sarawak Dayak communities.

Thus, it is an ideal place for the people of different backgrounds to meet, discuss and compare notes on traditional cultures through the exchange of ideas, portrayal of dances, music, arts and crafts. These will enable the people who participate in the festival to discover something new of other cultures and at the same time appreciate their own cultural heritage.

As many ethnic groups in the world are involved in padi planting and thus paddy harvesting, their traditional cultures are closely related to the land and agriculture. It is fruitful that these ethnic groups should understand such cultures and compare notes among themselves.
