SIBU: The main suspect with regards to a death threat against a Customs officer in Kuching last Thursday turned himself in at Sungai Merah police station on Monday (Nov 30).

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Fisol Salleh said the 35-year-old suspect, who was hunted by the police, surrendered himself at 9.10am.

He noted that the police will apply tomorrow (Dec 1) to have him remanded and will get him escorted to Kuching for further investigation.

“We have found that the suspect, who has eight previous criminal records, tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in a press conference in conjunction with his first working visit to Sibu district police headquarters (IPD).

He said the case was taken seriously especially because a government enforcement officer was threatened.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation as we think the suspect was involved in other crimes,” he said.

Last month, a senior Customs officer lodged a police report after receiving an envelope at his residence in Jalan Matang, Kuching. The envelope contained two live bullets accompanied by a threatening note which were written the words, ‘Got two bullets, one long, one short, which one you want’.

Acting on the report, police arrested three men aged between 35 and 39 last Friday, to assist in their investigation.

All (three) suspects are remanded until Tuesday (Dec 1), and background checks revealed that two of them had committed offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Also present at the press conference were Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit and his deputy Supt Collin Babat.
