KUCHING: Kuching City FC claimed crucial three points with a solid 2-0 victory over PDRM FC at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium on Saturday, putting in an impressive display of attacking football.

The match started with PDRM FC testing and teasing Kuching’s defence early on.

In the opening 10 minutes, Imran Samsoo’s long-range shot forced a superb save from Kuching’s goalkeeper Wan Azraie.

However, the Cats quickly took control of the game with precise passing and relentless attacking play.

Kuching City’s head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak, and his team move up to fifth in the Malaysia Super League standings.

In the 15th minute, Kuching broke the deadlock. A long ball from Hazwan Bakri found Petrus Shitembi, who skilfully flicked it over the legs of the PDRM defender to give the visitors the lead.

PDRM thought they had equalised soon after, but their goal was ruled offside following a VAR review.

The second half saw Kuching bolstering their offence with a long-range shooter from Ramadhan Saifullah that narrowly missed the post.

Kuching performed with excellent team play, as a quick throw-in found Tcheche Kipre, who set up Hazwan Bakri in the penalty area. Unfortunately, Hazwan’s shot just sailed wide.

In the final 10 minutes, PDRM had a free kick appeal for a handball, but Kuching turned the tables. A swift counterattack saw Jordan Mintah break through on goal, only for Bryan See to make a vital save.

However, Kuching’s persistence paid off in the 88th minute. Mintah received a long ball from their defence line, sprinted and slotted the ball into the net to seal the 2-0 victory.

Despite PDRM’s efforts, Kuching’s clinical finishing and relentless counterattacks proved too much.

The win extends Kuching City FC’s momentum as they continue to push through for a strong position in the league.

They are scheduled to square off against Kedah Darul Aman FC on Jan 24.
