SIBU: The Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) is organising a video contest titled “Lights Out, Creativity On – Thai Ad Style!” in conjunction with Earth Hour 2025.

The contest aims to engage the community in a fun and impactful way while raising awareness about energy conservation and environmental protection.

It also encourages public participation through creativity and social media interaction.

“Participants will create 30-second videos that creatively promote Earth Hour’s message using the unique and humorous storytelling style inspired by Thai advertisements,” SRDC said in a statement yesterday (March 14).

The submission deadline is March 20, while judging will take place on March 21, and the winners will be announced on March 22 during the Earth Hour event.

“The winner will take home RM322, while the runner-up will receive RM222, and the second runner-up will get RM122.

“Seven consolation prizes of RM50 each will also be awarded, and all winners will receive a certificate of participation,” the statement added.

Winners will be selected based on creativity, humor, and environmental messaging, with 40 per cent of the score coming from Facebook likes and 60 per cent from the judges’ evaluation.

The council emphasised that Earth Hour is more than just turning off lights—it is a global movement calling for collective action to combat climate change and promote sustainability.

“SRDC encourages everyone to participate in Earth Hour 2025, whether by switching off non-essential lights, joining the virtual program, or taking part in the video contest. You can also participate in this year’s Earth Hour 2025 virtual program via live streaming.

“For more details, visit SRDC’s official website or follow us on Facebook: Sibu Rural District Council. Let’s unite for ‘The Biggest Hour for Earth’ and make a lasting impact on our planet,” they added.
