KOTA PADAWAN: A temporary recycling centre will be established on a portion of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Desa Wira Nursery lot, with operations expected to begin by the second quarter of 2025.
MPP chairman Tan Kai stated that the centre aims to cultivate environmental awareness and promote practical recycling habits among Padawan residents in collaboration with Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia.
“The council will work closely with the foundation to collect and analyse data on waste management trends in Padawan.
“This data-driven approach will enhance waste management policies, ensuring Padawan becomes a cleaner, more sustainable municipality with an improved quality of life for its residents,” he said.
Tan said this in a press conference during the handover of the Letter of Intent for a temporary recycling lot to Tzu Chi Foundation Kuching at MPP Committee Room here, today (Dec 13).
He stated that the partnership with the foundation highlights a shared commitment to environmental preservation.
“By combining education with practical activities and leveraging data insights, we aim to create a better living environment for the people of Padawan,” he said.
When asked whether the centre would become permanent, Tan said the decision would depend on the outcomes of collaboration between the council and the state government.
He added that the temporary centre would remain operational as long as it is viable.
Tan also said that MPP will actively collaborate with the foundation to organise various educational activities related to recycling.
“These initiatives will promote the 5R principles: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle, engaging nearby communities and Padawan residents at large,” he said.
“The centre will also serve as a venue for Tzu Chi’s charitable and educational activities, fostering cooperation and providing training for the local community,” he added.
