KUCHING: Simunjan district now stands as the sole Covid-19 green zone in Sarawak following the declaration of Telang Usan district as a yellow zone.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Telang Usan, which was previously a green zone, recorded one new positive case today (Apr 27).
“This brings the number of yellow zones to 10 and only one green zone remains,” it said today.
SDMC said Matu district has also changed its status from orange to red after recording a total of 43 locally transmitted cases within the past 14 days, bringing the total number of red zones to 22 while orange zones have decreased to seven.
On another note, the committee said the State Health Department has declared two new clusters — Sungai Ngungun Cluster and Sungai Tuah Cluster — in Kanowit district.
It said the number of active clusters in the state is 63. A total of 18 clusters recorded 144 new cases while 45 clusters did not record any.
The Sungai Ngungun Cluster is a community cluster involving residents of a longhouse in the Nangga Ngungun resettlement area in Kanowit.
“The case index to this cluster is a 67-year-old local man who was detected through a second pre-treatment screening at Sibu Hospital on April 11. The index case was infected from the community in Kanowit and infection has spread among the longhouse residents through close contacts.
“Active case detection (ACD) on family members, casual contact and targeted screening on the residents of the longhouse yielded an additional 25 positive Covid-19 cases. All 26 cases including the index case were referred to Kanowit Hospital and were admitted to low-risk treatment centres (PKRC) under Sibu Hospital for isolation and further treatment,” SDMC said.
Meanwhile, the Sungai Tuah Cluster is also a community cluster involving a longhouse in the Sungai Tuah area in Kanowit.
SDMC said the spread of infection among the residents in the longhouse was due to a funeral ceremony held on April 12 followed by evening prayers from April 12 to 14 which was also attended by relatives from Miri, Julau and Sibu districts.
“The case index to this cluster is a 41-year-old local woman who was detected through symptomatic individual screening at Sibu Hospital after being referred by a private hospital in Sibu on April 16.
“ACD and further investigation on close contact to the index case and targeted screening on the residents of the longhouse saw an addition of 30 positive cases. All 31 positive cases were referred to Sibu Hospital and Kanowit Hospital and were admitted to PKRC under Sibu Hospital for isolation and further treatment,” it added.
