MIRI: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) Telang Usan Branch has decided to organise a large scale bubur lambuk distribution programme next year.
Telang Usan SABERKAS chairman Datuk Dennis Ngau said the programme will be done due to the overwhelming reception from the bubur lambuk distribution programme that was held in Long Lama on Tuesday.
“Judging from the response that we received this year, most likely we will expect another 300 participants joining this programme next year.
“So this could be an annual event in Long Lama, as part of the platform of bringing together people from different religion and cultural background.
“In Telang Usan, even though majority of the community there are Christians, we respect other people’s religions, and I urge them to continue stay united despite our major differences,” he said.
Dennis added that such instances were shown even during Hari Raya Aidiladha, where the non-Muslims are invited to the mosque to participate in korban ceremony.
“At the end of the event, we have meals together.
“Whether it is Chinese, Buddhists, whenever they have their annual event, they also invite Muslims, Christians to participate in the event.
“This is the beauty of the people in Telang Usan, we respect each other despite having major differences.
“And this have made us continue to grow, despite the challenge that we face, we will continue to move forward,” he added.
Dennis also stated that SABERKAS is a great platform for the youths to learn about leadership and tolerate one another.
“SABERKAS is made out of people from different cultures and their politics. Even our previous state leaders became SABERKAS leaders once.
“I am happy that in Telang Usan, there are 10 units of SABERKAS all over the district,” he added.
