KUALA LUMPUR: A 16-year-old girl was killed and five others were injured, including three with serious injuries, when the car they were travelling in skidded and overturned before landing on its side at Jalan Sungai Besi here yesterday.

The accident occurred about 5 am when the Toyota Innova they were travelling in skidded when attempting to avoid running over a dog.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy head Supt Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said Chin Xin Qi, 16, who was one of the rear passengers, died on the spot when thrown out of the car.

“Chin, together with four other passengers, were thrown out of the car, while another passenger was pinned in the rear seat,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said those seriously injured in the crash were two men, including car driver, Goh Kai Shen, 19, and a woman, identified as Lim Shin Wan, 23.

The other man who sustained serious injury was identified as Ng Wei Jie, 21.

Two others, Christopher Goh, 19, and a woman, Lam Loke Ching,16, were slightly injured, he said, adding that all the injured victims were sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital for treatment.

He said Chin’s body was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, a spokesman at the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said two engines with 15 firemen from the Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 5.22 am. – Bernama
