MIRI: Technology-driven platforms are becoming crucial tools for marketing products on a global scale, according to Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, who is also a member of the Malaysian Cooperative Institute’s (IKMa) board of directors.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of ‘Jom@Coop’ and ‘Bicara Ilmu Membina Jambatan Ekonomi: Dari Pasaran Miri ke Pasar Dunia’ here, he stressed the significance of leveraging digital strategies and meeting international standards to compete in a globalised market.
“The effectiveness of marketing is entirely dependent on the quality of the product. In today’s highly connected and competitive world, consumers favour products that meet high standards, including global certifications like HACCP and Halal compliance, which are essential for certain markets,” he said.
He also highlighted the pivotal role of online platforms in modern marketing strategies.
“Social media, e-commerce sites and digital marketing tools provide local entrepreneurs with opportunities to promote and sell their products internationally.
“A smart digital marketing strategy enables entrepreneurs to target specific markets and foster relationships with customers across borders,” he explained.
He stressed that to penetrate the global market effectively, entrepreneurs must also build strong international networks.
“Agencies such as the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), and the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Brunei (STATOB) play instrumental roles in supporting businesses to access new markets, identify trends and seize opportunities abroad.
“Efficient supply chain and logistics management are equally critical for global marketing. Entrepreneurs need to ensure that their products are delivered safely, on time, and at a competitive cost,” Willie stated.
He added that technological advancements have made shipping to overseas markets easier but stressed the importance of meticulous planning to avoid potential issues during the process.
In his closing remarks, he expressed confidence in the ability of cooperatives and entrepreneurs to thrive dynamically by adopting these strategies, achieving the vision of “from the Miri market to the world market.”
