KUCHING: The muaythai spirit is set to come alive in Tanjong Manis, with fighters from Miri, Bintulu, Samarahan, Kuching, Bau, and West Kalimantan preparing for a fierce showdown on Jan 24.

The event, organised by the Tanjong Manis Parliamentary Service Centre in collaboration with the Sarawak State Muaythai Association (PMNS), aims to discover and nurture muaythai talent from rural areas, giving them a platform to showcase their skills.

Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abd Wahab pointed out the importance of the competition as an opportunity for local athletes to step into the ring and potentially rise through the ranks to represent Sarawak in national competitions.

“This event is supported by the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), and the Malaysian Muaythai Association, all with the goal of identifying new talent for future SUKMA competitions,” he said during a recent press conference.

The upcoming event has sparked strong interest, with muaythai fighters from various clubs expected to participate.

The action will begin with a “Come and Try the Muaythai Sport” session on Jan 24, from 4 pm to 6 pm, with registration opening at 3 pm. This presents an opportunity for newcomers to explore muaythai under the guidance of certified coaches.
