KUCHING: It is the same school corridor where her husband once ran joyfully as a child and now it is Arinna Abdullah’s children’s turn to take the same path at SK Jalan Haji Baki here.
For the 26-year-old who hails from Sibu, the school is not only a place of learning as it also holds sentimental value in her family history.
“Apart from being close to our home, my husband also studied here from primary one to primary six.
“My husband and I are both working, so this school is convenient as it makes it easier for us to drop off and pick up our children,” she said.
She said this to reporters after attending her children’s first day of school for the 2025/2026 Academic Session here on Monday (Feb 17).

Excitement was evident on the face of her son, Adithiya Naufal Mohd Irfan Zakwan, 7, who just started primary one as well as his younger sister, Ardekkya Naura Mohd Irfan Zakwan, 5, who began preschool.
Since the night before, Arinna stated her children had been eager to go to school, excited to meet new friends and teachers.
“He (Adithiya) was so excited. Since yesterday, he has not stopped expressing how much he was looking forward to going to school.
“I told him to be patient and wait for the morning, but honestly, I was just as happy seeing his enthusiasm,” Arinna said with a smile.
Arinna took pride seeing her children step into the world of schooling.
“Honestly, I feel emotional because I used to spend all my time at home with them.
“I did not realise how fast time has flown, and now they are ready to step into a new world.
“However, I am not worried because this school has great and dedicated teachers,” she added.
The Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 Session in Sarawak commenced on Feb 17 and will end on Jan 11, 2026.
The total number of school days for Group B (Malacca, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Pelis, Pulau Pinang, Sarawak, Sabah, Selangor and Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Labuan) in the 2025/2026 Academic Calendar is 194 days, equivalent to 42 weeks.
To ensure thorough preparation and planning before the start of the 2025/2026 Academic Session, as usual, a Task Force has been established at the State Education Department (JPNS) level and in all District Education Offices (PPD) to help address any issues related to school reopening preparations (if any).
