KUCHING: Leong Kia Chun, the managing director of TAKA Group, was honoured as the sole recipient of the prestigious Emerging Entrepreneur Award in the Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2024.
The EOYS 2024, organised by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak in association with the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Ernst & Young (EY), aims to recognise the best in business in Sarawak.
The awards celebrated the success of up-and-coming entrepreneurs who, through ingenuity, resourcefulness, commitment, and hard work, have built businesses that contribute to the growth of Sarawak’s economy while encouraging the development of small and medium-scale industries in the state.
In addition, the event celebrated six distinguished recipients of the Master Entrepreneur Award.
They are Borneo Safety Training Services Sdn Bhd (BSTS)., Karuna (Sarawak) Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Persatuan Kontraktor Melayu Malaysia, Sarawak Association of Maritime Industries, Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak; and SCCI.
The awards were presented by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi on behalf of Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to honour the recipients’ outstanding contributions to Sarawak’s development.
In a text speech read out by Julaihi, Abang Johari expressed his admiration for the awardees.
“As we gather here this evening, I am honored to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the recipients of the EOYS Awards 2024.
“Your entrepreneurial journey is an inspiration to others, and your success is a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and resilience required to thrive in today’s competitive business landscape.
“Your accomplishments demonstrate the limitless potential of Sarawak’s entrepreneurs, and I am confident that your stories will motivate the next generation of business leaders to think creatively, take risks, and push the boundaries of traditional business models,” he said
Also present at the event were SCCI president Dato Sri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, EOYS chairman Datuk Philip Ting Ding Ing, and organising chairlady Angie Kueh.
