SERI KEMBANGAN: The Malaysian Examination Council (MEC) will offer the Tahfiz Al-Quran subject for Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination beginning this year.
STPM Tahfiz Al-Quran Examination Syllabus Committee chairman Prof Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff said the introduction of the subject was aimed at increasing the enrollment of students to public universities as well as to familiarise the Quran-related subject to students and the community.
“The first examination for the first semester will be held in November this year and the subject area will cover six topics such as Quranic Recitation skills and the 10 different Qiraat recitations,” he told reporters at the announcement of the 2018 STPM results here today.
He said the purpose of offering the subject was also to prepare Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates who have gone through the integrated Tahfiz curriculum for further education at the STPM level.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said the ministry hoped that private tahfiz schools would also give their students the opportunity to register for the subject for the STPM examination this year.
“The introduction of the Tahfiz Al-Quran subject shows the government’s commitment to the development of Islam in the country,” he told Bernama after presenting awards to top STPM students. – Bernama
