KUCHING: The One-Stop Committee (OSC) will take future initiatives to curb drug and substance abuse among minors.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah revealed that OSC would collaborate with the State Education Department, State Health Department, and State National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) to organise intervention programmes with schools around throughout Sarawak.

“We must take a crucial look at minors — those who are under 18 years old who are arrested for drug abuse — as they are the closest we can get to the sellers and suppliers of the drugs in order to curb the chain.

“Therefore, intervention programmes such as seminars and lectures will be done in schools around the state, also including conducting urine tests for the students,” she told reporters at a press conference after the courtesy visit from State JSJN, Sarawak Police Headquarters at Bangunan Baitulmakmur here yesterday.

Fatimah stated that the schools’ parent-teacher associations and parents played an important role for the initiatives to be a success.

“The programme will be held during ‘Hari Permuafakatan’ in the school to provide information about rehabilitation process from drug abuse.

“Not only that, OSC will also seek collaboration with the school itself for conducting urine test on their students by AADK and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) — at least twice a year,” she said.
