SIBU: The swift response of the fire department successfully evacuated four individuals after their homes were inundated by floodwaters in separate incidents today.
In the first incident at Kilometre Two, Jalan Durin-Kanowit, an elderly woman and two adult women were rescued after their house was submerged.
Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said they received an emergency call at 8.42 am.
A team from the Kanowit station was immediately deployed to the location to carry out the evacuation.
“Upon arrival, the operations commander assessed the situation and confirmed that flooding had occurred in the area.
“Several houses were submerged, and the water level was rising,” he said.
The victims were transported to safety using a rescue boat before being taken to the Kanowit Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) in a police vehicle.
Meanwhile, in another incident at Rumah Ambrose Ramping in Selangau, an individual had to be rescued after floodwaters rose nearly 10 feet from the veranda of the longhouse.
The department received an emergency call at 9 am, prompting a team from the Selangau station to rush to the scene.
The rescue operation involved two firefighters using a rescue boat.
The victim was brought safely to the PPS Dewan Serbaguna Selangau and the operation concluded at 9.20 am.
